Another resource in the mind that can transform any of the problematic states that we might be experiencing is called science of the mind.
This is the objective mind, the fair-witness mind, the observing mind; the Ogun mind.
The Ogun mind is the mind that is willing to look at things as they are rather than as we want them to be. The Orisa Ogun reminds us to look at things holistically. When we look at the whole of things we are able to stay objective and also to look at things creatively. Read the rest of this entry

I get many emails asking different questions regarding Ifa, and the one which is often asked is “What Can I Learn From Ifa”. The first reality I should reveal to you is that Ifa is about personal spiritual growth. This is not an easy road to travel, as one is constantly dealing with issues and challenges created by our own Ego.
Everything related to Ifa, whether it be Divination or Orisha worship is related to helping you accomplish your objective(s) while here on earth. These Objectives are all related to your spiritual growth.
It is true that many have come to Ifa only to find protection and to shelter themselves from activities they know too well are immoral, and they will pay the price for their actions in due time. Therefore; you should not allow your Ego to sway you from detaching yourself from all activities that are not related to your spiritual growth. Read the rest of this entry

In the previous article where we talked about the doubting, confused, and the over-analytical mind we said that we were creating interference. We learned that if we stayed in a state of over-analyticalness to such a point that it creates doubt and confusion or interference, then we would move to the next state which is self-cruelty.

In the previous article where we talked about futility, and the sabotaging mind we learned that that futility is the state of mind that we experience when we sabotage what we want by listening to the Yes/But tapes in the mind.
If we stay sabotaging what we want long enough, then we will move into the state called interference. Interference in the mind is created by the doubting mind, the confused mind, or the over-analytical mind.
The opposite of the over-analytical mind is the trusting mind, so a tendency to over-analyze in the mind is also a need to control. The controlling mind needs to figure things out, compartmentalize things and has difficulty with being surprised. Read the rest of this entry

In the previous article where we talked about fear of defeat, which we started by reworking the negative parts of past sorrows. We said that if you did not learn how to move on, you would move into a state of futility, and the sabotaging mind.
The sabotaging mind or the Yes/But tape give birth to attitudes like I don’t have enough time… There are two many details to attend to… It would require too much discipline, and so forth.
Other aspects of the sabotaging mind are negative self-talk. Ifa tells us to be very careful with what we say as there is much power in the words we say, this is called “Ofo Ase”. Statements using terms as I can’t, or It won’t work, or If only… Wish I has a…Someday I’ll…as ways of sabotaging the initial intention to go for what it is that one wants. Read the rest of this entry

In a previous article where we talked about sorrow, we stated that if you continued to rework sorrow in the mind, then the next state of mind that you will face is fear of defeat. Yeye Oshun reveals fear about two things: fear about new relationships, or fear about moving in a new direction that are emotionally important to oneself.
When we reopen old wounds, which we do quite often, it will bring up fear. This is fear of defeat, based on past memory. The whole function of fear is to constrict. Read the rest of this entry

There is a tendency to rework past sorrows in the mind, and particularly past sorrow or wounds that have a negative connotation. The first triangle that we experience is the family – father, mother, child. So, this could be a sorrow or a wound that goes back to childhood that is still being reworked in the mind; or it could represent unfinished family business tied with the past.
How we handle the first triangle of father – mother – child is how we’ll handle subsequent triangles of friend-co-worker-friend, or friend-lover-friend, or friend-lover-mate, or whatever combination of triangles that we experience in life. Until that initial family patterning is broken, we do not free ourselves from this tendency in the mind, and it is only in the mind that we have this tendency to rework the old wounds of the past or the old sorrows of the past. Ifa Cosmology
Just today a young women came to meet me. She asked me, “Tell me Baba, is there really a God?”
She was ready to argue that there is no God. I looked at her face, her eyes. She was tense, filled with argument; she wanted to fight about the point. Really deep down she wanted God to not exist, because if there is a God then you are in trouble. If there is a God then you cannot remain whatsoever you are; then a challenge comes.
