On Saturday/Sunday June 4/5 the Annual Agbonniregun Ifa Festival was held at Oke Itase Orunmila Temple, Ile Ife. During Ifa consultation, Obara Ogunda was revealed.

Ifa foresees Ire Gbogbo (All Ire of life). Ifa says that ebo will enable all the ire to manifest.

By virtue of this Odu, and in cognizance of the fact that Ifa foresees ire, there is the need for all Ifa devotees the world over to propitiate their Ifa with two kolanuts, four bitterkolas, one hen and money each. In addition to this, all those born by this Odu are expected to specifically ask Ifa what Ifa will take from them in order for all the Ire in their Odu to manifest in this year.

MESSAGES OF OBARA OGUNDA FOR ALL IFA DEVOTEES FOR THE YEAR 2011/2012.

•Ifa assures all devotees that they are going to receive the blessing of all ire of life this year. There is no exception in all the ire that devotees will be blessed with. Ifa foresees ire of prosperity, compatible spouse, great children, properties, sound health, long life, contentment, and self actualization during the year. Ifa says that the foundation of all these ire will be laid in one day. Ifa however cautions that in this same year those who are envious of the achievements of all Ifa devotees will be very busy at work but they will all fail. Ifa advises each devotee to offer ebo with two pigeons, two hens, two guinea-fowls, two roosters, two ducks, four rats, four fish, and money. On this, Ifa says:

Ile san mi
Okoo san mi
Dia fun Akinsanmi
Tii somo Ikori-Aga
Eyi to debiti sile
Ti ko ri nkankan pa
Ebo ni won ni ko waa se
O gbe’bo, o ru’bo
Ko pe, ko jinna
E wa ba ni ni wowo ire gbogbo

Translation
I benefit from home
And I also benefit in the farm
Ifa’s message for Akinsanmi
The offspring of Ikori-Aga
He who set a trap
Without killing any game
He was advised to offer ebo
He complied
Before he realized it
The front stroke of the trap killed 20 animals
The back stroke killed 30 animals
The middle stroke kills 50 animals
He pulled a creeper in order to use it as rope
Sixteen land snails fell down
When he opened his mouth in exclamation
Honey dropped into his mouth
When he returned home
His pregnant wife delivered a set of twins
He declared that his life is as rewarding as the life of Alaafin
Before long not too far
Join us in the midst of all ire of life

Ifa however enjoins all Ifa devotees never to tell lies and never to be found among people of questionable character. Ifa insists that all devotees must be found of impeccable character. Even when enemies rise up, they will be incapacitated by the might of the truth.

•Ifa says that the success that all devotees will have during this year will also extend to their siblings. This is the reason why there is the need to offer the same ebo as in 1 above for all our siblings in order to ensure that all of us benefit from the blessing that Ifa is doling out to all devotees this year. On this, Ifa says:

Igi nla abeso buuru
Dia fun Olobara
Tii s’olotan Ogunda
Ebo ni won ni ko waa se
O gb’ebo, o ru’bo
Ko pe, ko jinna
E wa ba ni ni jebutu ire

Translation
Who was the sibling of Ogunda
They were both advised to offer ebo
They complied
Before long, not too far
Joins us in the midst of all ire of life

•Ifa says that in order for many Ifa devotees who are not yet initiated into Ifa to benefit fully from all the blessings of Ifa, there is the need for all of them to be initiated into Ifa as quickly as possible. Doing this will bring financial success, elevation, progress, and self actualization. Ifa advises all uninitiated devotees to offer ebo with four pigeons each and money. After this, each of them needs to be initiated into Ifa as soon as possible.

Amodun o jinna
K’eni o ma hu eebu je o
Dia fun Orunmila
Ti yoo t’ori Akapo o re bo’nu Igbo

Translation
Next year is not far
Let no one eat what they are supposed to plant
Ifa’s message for Orunmila
When going to subject his Akapo to Ifa initiation rites
He was advised to offer ebo
He complied
When Orunmila subjected his Akapo to Ifa initiation rites
The ire of financial success came trooping in
Travelers to Ipo and Ofa towns
Join us in the midst of joy
Come and perceive all ire of life

•Ifa says that all devotees shall be blessed with all ire of life without exception. It is an assurance that Ifa is giving all its followers. Ifa however advises us to ensure that we feed the Elders of the Night constantly in order for them not to constitute themselves into cogs in the wheels of our progress. Ebo materials here are two pigeons, two guinea-fowls, two hens, two roosters, two ducks, and money. There is also the need to feed Ifa with one hen and to feed the Elders of the Night with another hen. On this, Ifa says:

Omi igbo ri’bi do
O ni ohun okinkin ninu omi
Ope eluju ri’bi do
O ni ohun orojorojo ni’mo
Dia fun Orunmila

Translation
And declared that it was a giant body of water
The palm-tree of the wilderness had a place to stay
And declared that it had glorious palm-frond
Ifa’s message for Orunmila
When going to the town of Ekun, appeal
He was advised to offer ebo
He complied
I am in love with financial success, I appeal to you
You human beings please I plead
I am in love with compatible spouse, I appeal to you
You human beings please I plead
I am in love with beautiful children, I appeal to you
I am in love with property, I appeal to you
You human beings please I plead
I am in love with long life, I appeal to you
You human beings please I plead
I am in love with all ire of life, I appeal to you
You human beings please I plead

•Ifa also says that we shall be blessed with honour dignity and respect this year. Ifa advises us to offer ebo together with either a close friend or sibling. Ifa says that both of us shall succeed together. This is very important in order to avoid a situation where one will be seen to have succeeded at the expense of the other. Ebo materials; two guinea-fowls, two pigeons and money each. Each of them also needs to feed the Ori of the other with one guinea-fowls. On this, Ifa says:

Oko titun won o ro’ju
And the mother of Awo, the Plate
They were advised to offer ebo
Only Awo complied
The Calabash will not be in the house
For us to take the Plate to the stream
The Awo is endowed with good luck

•Ifa says that there is a serious curse on the head of the devotees. The curse is the root cause of all their problems. There is the need to remove this curse so that their lives will have meaning. Ebo material: two matured rams, all edible fruits, one big calabash, one bundle of white cloth, four white pigeons, and money. After the ebo, they will put kolanut, red parrot feather, alligator pepper, bitterkola, and liquor inside the calabash. They will also slaughter one pigeon and put the head inside the calabash. They will take everything to the tomb of one of their paternal ancestors. They will dig the ground of the grave and bury the calabash there. They will place the white clothe in the dug hole before they place the calabash on top and bury everything. One of the rams will be slaughtered there and the curse will disappear.

He was advised to offer ebo
He complied
Olobara please overturn the calabash of curse
And carry the calabash of child bearing

•Ifa says that there are some women who have not received the blessing of the fruit of the womb yet. Ifa says that these women are the architects of their problems. If they are ready to give birth to their own babies, they need to offer ebo with 16 land snails, 16 Efun, 8 pigeons, 8 guinea-fowls and money each. Each of them also needs to feed Obatala as prescribed by Ifa.

But who will rather prefer to deep her hand into palm-oil
She was advised to offer ebo
She refused to comply
Ifa all devotees
Let those advised to offer ebo comply accordingly

•Ifa says that some Ifa devotees had been blessed and they had been given prominence by Ifa. Instead of them to be contented with what Ifa had done, they are planning and behaving in a way that will make them overstep their bounds. Ifa warns that this people will meet with shame and disgrace. Ifa warns that all male married devotees must not allow their women to push them into doing what is abominable. In the same vein, all female married devotees must not push their men into committing social, economic, spiritual, or physical taboo. Ifa advises this people to offer ebo with one matured he-goat and to heed Ifa’s warning.

•Ifa says that there is the need for all devotees to offer ebo in order not to be incarcerated this year. The threat of going to jail is very is palpable for many devotees. The ebo that each person will offer will be what will save the person from going to jail in this year. Ifa advises each person to offer ebo with 16 water yams, long chain, one matured he-goat and money. What will bring these people to jail is what they know nothing about. On this, Ifa says:

The reading of the year 2011 was conducted by Senior Ifa Priest Awodele Ifayemi. The Sacred Odu Ogbe Irete, also known as Ogbe Ate, and Ogbe Seete, was revealed to our Egbe located in Denver Colorado.

Each Ifa family conducts this ritual in order to receive guidance regarding the mayor “Theme” of the year. This reading prepares us for what is to come during the new year, and how to manage our affairs in order to receive the most benefit from the year. Challenges and opportunities are revealed so that we can make a conscious decision regarding our personal affairs.

As children of Olodumare the single most important gift given on to us is our Freedom Of Choice. We stand tall and or fall as a result of the choices we make in life. Knowing that the road ahead is full of obstacles we can’t live with, helps those who listen to council chose a different path they can handle. The reading of the year gives us an overview of the “prevailing winds of change” ahead of us. Ultimately it is our choice to follow council or not.

The Odu for the year 2011 is Ogbe Ate

This will be a potentially challenging year. Specifically in the realm of finances. Much advice is given so that you can overcome the financial challenges, as well as take advantage of the financial opportunities this year brings.

First of all those of you feeling you have not being able to achieve your ambitions, like prosperity, and a stable dwelling; shoukd note that the financial challenges this year brings can be overcome.

The secret to overcoming these challenges is to “know” specifically what you want. You must be able to have a clear mental picture of what you want and be able to clearly articulate to your Ifa and Olodumare exactly what you want, and not what you think may please the Deities.

You should not leave the decision on how successful you want to become to the deities. If you wish to build many houses in life, you must tell Ifa to please give you the opportunity of building the exact number of houses you wish for. You must clearly articulate what type of prosperity you wish to be associated with.

You must be sure in your mind what your needs and aspirations are before approaching Ifa for help.

Following this advice will empower you to be the “master” of your destiny. You will be able to control your world successfully. However; you must be aware of useless people who think of nothing but evil on a daily basis. In other words, stay away from ambitious people who will stop at nothing to get their way.

For those of you planning a trip, Ifa says you need to perform ritual to your Egbe so as to avoid being disgraced and humiliated both at home and at your destination.

Ifa says that the situation at home is far from rosy. Many of your colleagues have concluded that you should be disgraced. However; Ifa says that this shall not come to pass. Ifa says that where you plan to travel is also clouded with uncertainty. However; you will not face disgrace both at home and where you are going.

You will also be challenged by the ridicule of slanderers. Ifa recognizes that no matter how hard you try to do good to people, they still go behind your back to defame you. However; there is no need to seek legal redress against these people; all you need to do is offer appropriate sacrifice in order to overcome all the evil plans and acts of your slanderers.

Remember that the main challenge of this year is financial obstacles, and one of them deals with the fact that most of the people you consider to be your friends are only close to you because of what they will gain from you. If there is nothing to gain anymore, they will disappear. Therefore; it is in your best interest to offer sacrifice in order for you to be able to recognize those whom you can really rely on come think or thin. However; once you have identified your pretenders do not speak against them. If you do, you shall be disgraced by them.

Those of you whom are contemplating re-inventing yourselves this year, Ifa says that you will be better off in the medical or paramedical field. These include medicine, pharmacy, nursing, physical-therapy, herbal medicine, and so on. However; you must make sure that these fields are indeed in your path.

Ladies, in particular those of you who are married, Ifa has a word or two of advice…

You need to respect your husband at all times, and listen to what he tells you and abide by his rules, and regulations at all times. You must show concern for your husband and his welfare so as to live a happy and successful marital life. If you do this, your own place of honor will be assured. However; if you have no respect for your husband or his family, if you show no concern for his welfare and refuse to abide by his rules and regulations, you will be disgraced out of your own home.

Gentlemen, Ifa also has a few words for you as well…

You must be paying more attention to the day-to-day activities inside your home. You must not devote all your energies to helping others to solve their problems at the expense of your own time. If you were to devote some time to look at your own home affairs, you will be more successful in all things you are doing. You will also gain the respect and recognition of not only your peers, but most importantly; your spouse.

Ifa also says that you must uphold all the tenets of Ifa ans EGUNGUN. You must never abandon the two deities. you must also propagate them at all times, and under no conditions should you abandon Ifa and EGUNGUN as a result of probllems, frustrations or disappointment.

Ifa says that there was a traditional family business which had been abandoned. Ifa says that you need to go back to this business. This business would enhance your chances for success.

Ifa also says that you should consider getting initiated so as to be comfortable in life. Not only this, but you need to observe the warnings contained in your Odu.

Ifa says that you must be able to avoid common pitfalls and be able to use your intelligence at all times. you must not contravene simple laws of society and those of nature. In other words, you must, after being initiated, re-initiate yourself.

Ifa says:

A kii ji ni kutukutku
Ka ma mo Odu to da ni s’aiye
Dia fun Olupo Alaelu
Eyi t f’eyin tin
To n fekun sarahun ire gbogbo
Ey ti ile aye ni lara kokooko bi ota
Won ni ko sakaale, ebo ni sise
Ko si lo ree te ifa
O gbe’bo, o r’ubo
Ko pe, ko jinnna
Ire gbogbo wa ya de tuturu
Ifa de o, Alase
Ope abise warawara

Translation

It is not advisable for one to wake up in the dawn of one’s life
Without knowing the Odu that gave birth to one
This was the declaration of Ifa to Olupo Alaelu
Who reclined
And was weeping in lamentation of his inability to achieve all Ire in life
He whose life was as hard and tough as pebbles
He was advised to offer sacrifice
And also told to undergo initiation
He complied
Before long, not to far
All Ire in life came to him in abundance
Here comes Ifa, the embodiment of Ase
The holy palm tree, which ensures that its predictions come to pass with rapidity.

The reading of the year was revealed in the Ile of Baba Awodele Ifayemi, in Denver Colorado. The primary Odu was cast by our youngest awo; Ogbe Sotito – Jason Tibbitt, the first witness was cast by EjiOgbe Michael Bolden, and the second witness was cast by EjiOgbe Fatu.

Ifa says that no matter the condition in which you may find yourself, you must never lie. You must never cheat or be dishonest.

Ifa says that those who are cheating you will find themselves to blame in the end. On this Ifa says:

Bi oju ba n pon Babalawo
Ki Babalawo ma puro
Bi oju ba n pon Onisegun
Ki onisegun ma sera
Nitori ati sun Awo
Dia fun Orunmila
Nijo eni Aimo wa n ko ogun ja Baba
Won ni ko sakaala ebo ni sise
O gbebo, o rubo

Transaltion:

If a Babalawo is in grave want
Let the Babalawo lie not
If a herbalist is in need
Let the herbalist not be dishonest
Let no one lie or display dishonesty
These are the declarations of Ifa to Orunmila
When unknown people (pretenders) were waging was against him
He was advised to offer sacrifice
He complied.

Orunmila was finding it extremely difficult to make ends meet. He tried many things he knew but to no avail. He was always telling people to be steadfast, honest and sincere but he was not successful. His honesty did not pay him any royalties.

On the other hand, all those who were dishonest were very successful. They had all the enviable things of life. They were all making fun of Orunmila that in spite of his honesty, he was a total failure. Consequently, Orunmila went to a group of Awo for Ifa consultation. The Awo informed Orunmila that he must continue to display transparent honesty in all his thoughts, speeches and deeds. They also informed him that he would be able to overcome his problems and eventually get to the root of his problems by discovering who and what were responsible for his lack of success.

Orunmila was therefore advised to offer a sacrifice of two hens, two pigeons and money. He complied. He was then told to be watchful and patient.

A few days after the sacrifice, some of the apparently successful people who engaged in falsehood came to Orunmila to advise him to stop being honest since truthfulness was unrewarding. They asked Orunmila to consider putting little lies into his business in order for him to be successful. Orunmila turned down their advice and told them that they should remember that everyone would be accountable to Olodumare whenever they died. He said that he would continue to be truthful in spite of his wants. They got annoyed and left him.

Before long however, many of them were caught impersonating Orunmila deceiving people and extorting various sums of money from them. Many were caught stealing. Many were caught trying to blackmail others. Some were exposed for claiming to possess certain privilege or authority that did not belong to them. They were all punished appropriately.

At the same time, the qualities of Orunmila were recognized and for this reason, he was respected, honored and made the “Oloooto Aye” – The honest man of the world. He was very happy and he was praising his Awo thus:

Bi oju ba n pon Babalawo
Ki Babalawo ma puro
Bi oju ba n pon Onisegun
Ki onisegun ma sera
Nitori ati sun Awo
Dia fun Orunmila
Nijo eni Aimo wa n ko ogun ja Baba
Won ni ko sakaala ebo ni sise
O gbebo, o rubo
Nje eni Aimo
Emi ma wa mo yin o
Eni Aimo
Emi ti mo Monumonu
To finu jo Oka
Eni Aimo
Emi ma wa mo yin o
Eni Aimo
Emi ti mo Agbadu
To finu jo Ere
Eni Aimo
Emi ma wa mo yin o
Eni Aimo
Emi ti Iwowo-Ereke
To finu jo Barapetu
Eni Aimo
Emi mawa mo yin o
Eni Aimo

Translation:

If a Babalwaeo is in grave want
Let the Babalawo lie not
If a herbalist is in need
Let the herbalist not be dishonest
Let no one lie or display dishonesty
Because of accountability when he dies
These are the declarations of Ifa to Orunmila
When unknown people (pretenders) were waging war against him
He was advised to offer sacrifices
He complied.
Now ye pretenders
You have all been exposed
Ye pretenders
I now know the Python
Which pretended in likeness to the Gabon Viper
Ye pretenders
You have all been exposed
Ye pretenders
I now recognize the agbadu
Which pretended in likeness of the Boa Constrictor
Ye pretenders
You have all been exposed
Ye pretenders
I can now see tjeough Iwowo-Ereke (impersonator)
Who claimed that he is Orunmila himself
Ye pretenders
You have all been exposed
Ye pretenders

Ifa says that your honesty shall be rewarded while liars, pretenders and impersonators shall be punished accordingly.

Ethical Teachings of Ogbe Sotito

The liar dies and dies in a forest of fire.
The wiked dies and dies on a sun-scorched savannah.
But the righteous dies and dies peacefully,
Leaning back against a water jar decorated with jewels.
Orunmila, priest of the world,
interpreted the teachings of Ifa for the people of the world,
When they were creating a world,
A world where there was no harmony.
They were advised to sacrifice.
But only the righteous remained to practice sacrifice.
So, speak truth; do justice
Be kind and do not do evil.
Truth travels on a narrow path
But the wicked wanders on a wide road.
Speak truth; do justice
Do justice and speak truth.
For one who is righteous is supported by the Divine.

This is a teaching on the need and value of righteousness in the world. The wrongdoer who lies and is cruel is portrayed as one who does not find cool relief, but rather searing heat signified by the “forest of fire” and the “sun-scorched savannah.” These metaphors for heat and discomfort are contrasted with the metaphor of leaning against the jeweled water jar which signifies not only relaxation in wealth, but also a coolness or calmness suggested by the image of water.

The verse urges us to practice two of the cardinal virtues of Ifa; truth and justice. And it assures us that the righteous who practice these values will be favored by the Device. The verse also encourages us to “be kind” and not be evil. This joining of kindness to the virtues of truthfulness and justice is key to the care and responsibility we must fell and exercise towards one another. For both truth and justice can be harsh. And it is with loving kindness that they are balanced and serve their essential function of bringing and supporting good in the world. It is through kindness that the moral excellence of iwapele, gentle character, is grounded and flourishes.

Warnings from Ogbe Sotito:
